Through Rice Building Workshop, this proposal presents a cost-effective expansion strategy for Workshop Houston - a local non-profit organization that provides educational resources and programs for youth in Houston's Third Ward. The overall campus plan places the Scholar Shop at the main entrance and anchors all buildings to a central spine that connects the campus front together. The prioritization of the Scholar Shop is based on the organization's requirements that children complete homework assignments in the Scholar Shop before they can proceed to extra-curricular activities.

The spine is a covered, outdoor walkway that establishes a physical connection between all the workshops to unite the campus. Outdoor work and play space is located at the back of the site, farthest from the street, for increased safety and security. The discrete separation of each function also lends itself to a long-term phasing strategy whereby Workshop Houston is able to continue its daily operations during construction.
